NOTE: Your pet’s cremains are commonly returned to you by your Veterinarian in a temporary container that can be easily transferred to an urn.

Determining the quantity of ash (cremains) you will receive from the pet crematory is difficult as crematory service processes vary. A general guideline is about one cup (8 ounces or 15 cubic inches) per 20 pounds. We freely offer exchanges if you need a different sized pet urn. Never install loose ash cremains in any urn - they should always be placed in a baggie or ziplock.
Example- thirty (30) pounds would require an urn with at least 12 ounces or a 22 cubic inch volume capacity. This can vary slightly. Let us know if you are still not sure. We can not be responsible for the quantity of ash or cremains which are received from a particular crematory. Our capacities are actually very conservative. If you end up with an excessive amount of cremains, please see ideas for cremains. Never install loose ashen cremains in any urn - they should always be placed in a baggie or ziplock.

Some may find it acceptable to share the volume of ash with other family members in a keepsake or jewelry urn or, if the ashes are excessive, a portion may be planted with a memorial tree or spread on a favorite rest area in the yard. Our History

Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust:

Meaning: We come from dust; we return to dust.

Origin: From the Book of Common Prayer. In the current American version, it appears on page 485 (Burial Rite 1) and on page 501 (Burial Rite 2) in a prayer that is said by the priest as earth is ceremonially cast on the coffin:

"In sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ, we commend to Almighty God our brother <name>; and we commit his body to the ground; earth to earth; ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The Lord bless him and keep him, the Lord make his face to shine upon him and be gracious unto him and give him peace. Amen.
